„Thanatos can Phoenix!“
About Destruction and New Inventions

13.12.2014–24.01.2015

Group exhibition with:
Vanessa Farfán, José Noguero, Wanda Stolle, Daniel Lavoie, Philip Topolovac, Julio Falagán, Peter Rollny, and Mamoru Tsukada.

Vernissage: Sat. 13.12.2014, 6–9 pm
Finissage: Sat. 31.01.2015, 6–9 pm

Greusslich Contemporary is delighted to invite you to the group exhibition „ Thanatos can Phoenix!“. The subtle concept deals with the human being and the arts, an obviously present phenomenon of the act of destroying and simultaneously creating the new.

Vanessa Farfán shows a tableau of small canvases of extreme enlarged cutouts of former paintings, dealing with layered systems of a city structure. This mosaic of de-contextualized fragments stays open for lasting new orders.

José Noguero continues with the topic of his painting, deconstructing a landscape and at the same time creating a new gestic, abstract language. A long process of deleting and over-layering ends in a new experience of: color, fields, rhythm and space.

Wanda Stolle presents paper work, in which she first scratches, seemingly destructive, on the paper surface and then layers on and off many coats of black ink. Linear forms combined with an organic poetic ink language, transmitting images of cosmic cartographic appearance.

Daniel Lavoie paints on his canvas an emotionally disturbing letter in which he multi-layers beyond the point of recognition. Meanwhile in doing so, he is inspired by his research of traditional African cloth design that are created for especially emotional situations to inform, nonverbally, the community about the wearer.

Philip Topolovac presents in his photographic work a model, which forces with its martial aspects the reflection about the relation of observing and destroying techniques on the one hand and the necessary incredible productive sense of invention on the other hand.

Practicing selection, in the sense, that the strongest come out on top, is the explicit topic of the work „No hay lugar para los débiles“ („There is no place of the weak ones“) by Julio Falagán. Who speaks this sentence to be read literally in the endearing, idyll painting? May it be: a ruling god, an armed cowboy or a mistreated victim? Is the higher destroying power a guaranty for higher reproduction power?

Peter Rollny demonstrates a destruction of the media of painting through the introduction of existing image containers (e.g. photography) on the canvas. His technique has become its own language. The communication within the painting, between the photographic woman and the gestic paint strokes, creates a highly dense and psychological charged situation.

Mamoru Tsukada´s image is a multilayered computer aided photographic work, which portraits the antagonist of Thanatos called Eros. Layering and deleting of the deeper layers is an act of destruction but at the same time delivers the visual and contextual noise in the background which leads, consequently, to the visualizing of Eros and the mythological power of creation in general and the bigger part of the male brain power in particular.

This exhibition shall strengthen the fascination for the emotional and technical potential of the human, supported by a critical reception of the now and an increased awareness of the own actions.

„Thanatos puedo Fénix!“
Destrucción y Nuevos Inventos

13.12.2014–24.01.2015

Exhibición colectiva con:
Vanessa Farfán, José Noguero, Wanda Stolle, Daniel Lavoie, Philip Topolovac, Julio Falagán, Peter Rollny y Mamoru Tsukada.

Vernissage: Sa. 13.12.2014, 6–9 pm
Finissage: Sa. 31.01.2015, 6–9 pm
