CHANGE IS THE ONLY CONSTANT.

Vernissage Do. 19 Nov. 2015. Um 18:30 Uhr

Alper Emeklier often observes and simultaneously reveals the changes that take place in the process of time. There are all the three times present in his portraits; the past, the present and the future; the memory, the reality, and the unfinished dream; leaving the observer to interact with the dream oneself. They have an arresting presence, a combination of refinement, strangeness and compressed meaning that makes you stop and ponder.

At a glance, his new works recall abstract, real, unfinished and expressionist energetic actions with paint. His strokes and color nuance are derived from his experience watching the time transform, perhaps in a form, in art, representing in general human´s resistance against impermanance. His work speaks of existence in proud, insistent, imaginative ways, touching repeatedly on the roots of existence and the acceptance of the present; a truth also in the face of socio-political reality of europe in the face of present situation of refugees whose inner ordeals are now also a part of the national psyche.

The presence of animals – a relatively usual occurrence within Alpers work compared to the prevalence of figural imagery, the central positioning of the lamb at the heart of a composition provides a thoroughly modern take on historical symbolism, perhaps reminding of the existence of a natural and a balanced form of life and of a new beginning.
