galerie OPEN by Alexandra Rockelmann freut sich sehr in ihren Räumen, die erste Einzelausstellung des in Indiana (USA) gebürtigen und in New York lebenden Künstlers Jeffrey Teuton zu zeigen.
Jeffrey Teuton lebt und arbeitet in New York. Seine konzeptionellen Bilder sind ein Manifest seiner Notizbücher, welche von ihm durch tägliche Entdeckungen mit Ideen, Epochen, Texten, Fundstücken und Mythen gefüllt werden. Indem er seine Notizen revue passieren lässt, kristallisieren sich wiederkehrende Themen heraus, welche eine Stimme formen, die verlangt zum Ausdruck gebracht zu werden. Teuton lässt dann sein Leben in seine Arbeiten einfließen und es wird ein Teil, eher ein Führer der Werke selbst. Seine Bilder, welche als schnell und leichtfertig gestaltet erscheinen können, sind in Wirklichkeit in monatelanger Arbeit entstanden, welche nötig ist um das Erlebte in simple Formen und Töne herunterzubrechen. Seine Bewunderung für ausgefeilte Techniken anderer Maler ist für ihn zwar eine Motivation, Teuton sagt jedoch: „Meine Vulgarität kommt mir dann in die Quere und am Ende verfließt alles in eine gewisse Offenheit“.

galerie OPEN by Alexandra Rockelmann is pleased to announce the most recent work by Jeffrey Teuton in the solo show My Sauvignon Blanc isn´t cold enough: and other things I have yelled for attention. Teuton lives and works in New York. His conceptual paintings are a manifestation of his notebooks that fill up with the ideas, eras, words, stories and myths that he collects from his daily discoveries. Through looking back over the pages, reoccurring themes reveal themselves and define the voice that is demanding to speak. Teuton then lets his life unfold in the work, and it becomes a part and a guide of the work itself. His paintings, which may seem quick and frivolous, have taken months to eek out a simple line or a simple shade. His envy of the subtle qualities of other painters is a motivation and as Teuton says: “My vulgarity just gets in the way and I end up spilling everything out in the open.”
I am vain and I am a liar. I have stolen emotions for my own feeding and I have built brightly colored walls around me to create a story that allows me to keep everyone around me out. Through this I have become a monster clutching and greedy. The balance with need has been lost and I have fully surrendered to a web of want. I misbehave and find solace in being cruel. Cycles and circles have been left incomplete.
I am left to pick up the pieces and let them smash down. There is nothing else to do but set a fire and bear proudly black feathers of my own creation. This exhibition explores and symbolizes this journey.
