Maya Cohen-Levys Werke sind schön, zum Teil auch betörend schön und zwar auch dort, wo das Sujet des Werks alles andere als schön, ja nachgerade häßlich oder grauenvoll ist.
Hat man es hier also mit einer unannehmbaren Diskrepanz zwischen Form und Inhalt, mit einem unzulänglichen Widerspruch zwischen "Bösem" und seiner anmutigen Repräsentation zu tun? In gewisser Hinsicht kann dies durchaus behauptet werden ...
Maya Cohen Levy – Biography
Born in Israel, in 1955, Maya Cohen Levy has been one of the most active artists in the country. She has presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Israel and abroad, among which are exhibitions in the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Israel Art Museum in Jerusalem, and the major private art galleries in Tel Aviv, as well as London ,New York and Berlin.
Her works are part of private and public collections in Israel and abroad, including the Tel Aviv Museum and the Jewish Museum in NY.
Cohen Levy has studied art since early age, and graduated from the Kalisher Art School in Tel Aviv. She has continued her studies in Japan and China (The Central Institute of Fine Arts, Beijing), and has been teaching in the past 25 years in schools such as Bezalel Art Academy in Jerusalem, Kalisher Art School in Tel Aviv, and others.
Her portfolio includes paintings, installations, sculptures, and published books with poets and writers.
Throughout the years, Cohen Levy has been awarded with the highest awards of the Israeli art arena, including the recent awards she received from the Ministry of Culture and Education in Israel, as well as the Dan Sandel Sculpture Award in the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Painting Award of the Israel Art Museum in Jesulem.
