subversion d ´image
Romeo Grünfelder
Vom 30.
Neben zwei seiner Fotografien zeigt Romeo Grünfelder auch weitere "Fußnoten, so u.a.

From 31 May to 5 July an exceptional 35mm fi lm is being shot and produced at the Berlin gallery KUNSTAGENTEN, directed by artist Romeo Grünfelder. The film forms part of the “subversion d’image” series inspired by “la naissance de l’objet” by photographer Paul Nougé. “Each film in my series - and not just on the formal level - oscillates around the absence of an object whose impact is felt purely through its lack of pre- sence or ambivalent deferment, a kind of subversion of the imaginary” comments Grünfelder. In a marked departure from standard exhibition practice in staging video and film art, the various phases of film production and montage shown in “subversion d’image” venture far beyond forms of pure presence and presentation of technical dispositions. Areas such as content development, direction, and shooting right through to the walk-over-the red-carpet are understood as precognitive acts and virtual processes in the production of film, and are exposed and made manifest across the whole of the exhibition.
While the vernissage is replaced by a casting, the closing event of the exhibition, the fi nissage, will be marked by presentation of the work in its projected fi nality. A series of pamphlets will be issued documenting production talks, announcements and debates on issues arising from the work in progress. Grünfelder will be in the gallery working on the fi lm during the whole of the exhibition and his studio is open to the public during the entire production process. Together with René Magritte, Paul Nougé - a biochemist, philosopher and photographer by profession - was the leading figure in the group of Belgian and French surrealists. They both edited the iconoclastic magazine “Correspondance” fi rst published in November 1924 in pamphlet form.
Along with two of his photographic works, Romeo Grünfelder is also showing “various foot notes such as votive images that attest the divine workings of God and psycho-affective emanations of changing emotional states expressed on photo paper.” In the evening a series of specially selected and presented films will be shown documenting miracles, hauntings and other paranormal phenomena.
Born in 1968, filmmaker and artist Romeo Grünfelder lives and works in Hamburg. A student of Bernhard Johannes Blume in Hamburg, he has received numerous awards and distinctions including the Hamburg Stipendium 2008, Villa Aurora LA, DocART Neubrandenburg, and the Max Ophüls Saarbrücken award.
