Waterworks
Videoinstallation von Vladimir Frelih und Dragan Matić
im kleinen Saal der Galerie Nord

Soft Opening: Mittwoch 3. August, 17–21 Uhr

Dragan Matićs künstlerische Praxis umfasst Malerei, Ready-made, digitale Fotografie, Video, Performance, elektronischen Sound, Land Art und Roboterdesign.

Performances: Do 11., Sa 13. u. So 14. August.

Galerie Nord | Kunstverein Tiergarten presents:

3 - 13 August 2022, Tue-Sat 12-7 pm
Waterworks
video installation by Vladimir Frelih and Dragan Matić
in the small hall of the Galerie Nord

Soft Opening: Wednesday 3 August, 5–9 pm

A Man and a River - the video installation Waterworks is a Serbian-Croatian collaboration that uses absurd-looking settings and performances and art historical quotations to question the relationship between nature and man. The 10-day video installation, consisting of the videos Tycoon, The Man In The Foreground, A White Body In A Black River and Painting An Island..., is staged especially for the small hall of Galerie Nord, which it conceives of as a landscape space.
Dragan Matic (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Vladimir Frelih (Osijek, Croatia) have been working together since 2011 and have realised more than ten video works in addition to their own artistic works and the joint photographic works.
They explore the concepts of visualisation, the boundaries between digital and analogue media and their communication, translatability and compatibility. The individual, the community and society are inseparable elements of their artistic and pedagogical thinking and the end product, a work of art, is often an aesthetic side effect.

Vladimir Frelih actively participates in the contemporary art scene in Croatia and abroad through solo and group exhibitions. He graduated from the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 2000, where he obtained his MA degree. Frelih has won several art awards and his works are in numerous and private contemporary art collections and foundations (Kunstmuseum Bonn, City of Düsseldorf and MSU Zagreb). Frelih teaches photography, video and film as well as multimedia at the Academy of Arts in Osijek. Since 2011 he has been a visiting professor at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, where he teaches courses in contemporary art practice and methods of artistic research.

Dragan Matić´s artistic practice includes painting, ready-made, digital photography, video, performance, electronic sound, land art and robotic design. He presents his work in international exhibitions, art projects and film festivals. He is a member of the artist groups Multiflex and Happy Trash Production. He received his BFA in Art in 1991 and his MFA in 2000 from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, where he is currently also a professor of Fine Arts. From 2009 to 2012 he taught as a visiting professor at the Academy of Arts in Osijek, Croatia.
Following his video installation "Waterworks," Dragan Matic is involved as a performer and scenographer in the opera happening "La voix humaine." Performances: Thu 11, Sat 13 and Sun 14 August.
