Das Rumänische Kulturinstitut in Berlin freut sich, in seinem Kunstraum, [Ceci n'est pas une] Gallery, und in Zusammenarbeit mit der Galeria Posibilă (Bukarest), zur Eröffnung der Gruppenausstellung HUG ME HARD. Chapter #1: Alexandra Boaru, Lucia Ghegu, Denise Lobonț einzuladen!
Die Ausstellung, die zeitgleich mit der Gallery Weekend Berlin öffnet, konzentriert sich auf jungen Positionen aus der zeitgenössischen rumänischen Kunstlandschaft und bringt raumübergreifend und intermedial einen umfangreichen Bestand an Werken zusammen.
Die Vernissage wird von einer Live-Performance mit elektronischer Musik, nach einem Konzept des transdisziplinären Künstlers Daniel Bucurescu, begleitet.
[Ceci n'est pas une] Gallery wird zu einer Baustelle für neue Ideen und frische Perspektiven, basierend auf Gesten künstlerischer Verwandtschaft und kultureller Solidarität, die nun – mehr denn je – auf mutigen, empathischen, weltgestaltenden Haltungen beruhen sollten. Heute, wo die großen Fragen zum Zustand der Welt und der Menschheit uns überall mit großer Dringlichkeit begegnen, wollen wir ein Programm entwickeln, das ethisch, ausgeglichen und einfühlsam gegenüber den unterschiedlichsten Positionen ist.
Der Auftakt unserer mehrteiligen Ausstellungsreihe trägt den Titel HUG ME HARD. Auf dem Weg in die Tiefen der menschlichen Psyche präsentieren drei aufstrebende Künstlerinnen ihre transformativen Visionen zu Fragen von Identität und Sehnsucht, Zugehörigkeit und Entwurzelung, während sie den wandelnden Begriff des Menschseins in einer immer komplexeren, unerkennbaren Realität umreißen.
HUG ME HARD spielt mit der Spannung und Ambivalenz der Welt, die uns heute umgibt. Durch sich überschneidende Medien und Materialien – von großformatigen Zeichnungen und taktilen Skulpturen bis hin zu Klangobjekt, Fotografie und Videoarbeiten – nährt sich die Ausstellung aus dem kontrastvollen Aufeinandertreffen von Gegensätzen: das Sichtbare mit dem Verborgenen, Fakten mit Fiktion, die unbeugsame Starrheit mit dem sanft Liebkosenden, das Samtige mit dem Dornenhaften... Wie eine heftige, intensive Umarmung, nach einer langanhaltenden Abwesenheit.
Als Antwort auf den aktuellen Zustand der Welt, ist dieses Ausstellungskapitel letztlich ein Aufruf zum Handeln. Eine Geschichte, die tief in den kollektiven Geist eintaucht und dort neue Modelle der Koexistenz hervorbringt, die auf Praxen der Differenz, der Veränderung und der Verbundenheit basieren.

The Romanian Cultural Institute in Berlin is pleased to invite to the opening of the group exhibition HUG ME HARD. Chapter #1: Alexandra Boaru, Lucia Ghegu, Denise Lobonț. The exhibition is taking place at the art space of the RKi, [Ceci n'est pas une] Gallery, and has been produced in collaboration with Galeria Posibilă (Bucharest).
Setting its focus on young positions of the contemporary Romanian art scene, this exhibition chapter brings together an extensive body of recent work across various media. The opening will be accompanied by a live performance with electronic music, based on a concept by out-of-the-box, transdisciplinary musician Daniel Bucurescu.
[Ceci n’est pas une] Gallery turns into a construction site for new ideas and fresh perspectives based on gestures of artistic kinship and cultural solidarity, which now—more than ever before—should rely on brave, empathic, world-shaping stances. Today, when big questions around the state of the world and that of humanity are lurking around every corner, we aim to develop a program that is ethical, equitable and sensitive to the most diverse of positions. We are a spatial envelope for all the fears and dreams, the slopes and odes developed in search for a hopeful reimagining of our shared future.
The first act of our multi-chapter narrative is titled HUG ME HARD. As it delves into the depths of human psyche, three emerging artists present their transformative viewpoints on matters of identity and [be]longing, uprooting and entanglement whilst outlining the shifting notion of being human in an increasingly complex, unknowable reality.
HUG ME HARD plays on the tension and ambivalence of the world that surrounds us today. Through intersecting media and materialities—ranging from large format drawings and tactile sculptures to sound objects, photography and video works—the exhibition feeds on the union of contrasts that link the seen to the unseen, facts to fiction, the unbending stiffness to the softly caressing, the velvety to the thorny... Like a fiercely intense embrace, after a sustained absence.
In many ways a response to the current state of the world, HUG ME HARD is ultimately a call for action. A story that plunges deep into the collective mind where it harvests new models of coexistence based on the practices of difference, of transformation and communion.
