Seit 2009 realisiert District ein vielseitiges Programm mit dem Ziel, langfristige Dialoge zwischen künstlerischen, kuratorischen, wissenschaftlichen und edukativen Arbeitsweisen zu schaffen. Mit Fokus auf die Verortung von künstlerischer Praxis im Stadtraum entwickelt District kollaborative und rechercheorientierte Formate für Kunst in erweiterten Wirkungsfeldern. Verschiedene Formen der Nachbarschaft, der Entgrenzung und emanzipatorische Momente des Freundschaftlichen bilden dabei Anlässe, um die Gegenwart mit den Mitteln der Kunst für unterschiedliche Perspektiven und Formen des Wissens zu öffnen. Geprägt von feministischen, queeren und dekolonialen Ansätzen erkundet District das Kuratorische als performative wie analytische Praxis und erprobt neue Formen von Gemeinschaft.

Das halbjährlich vergebene District-Atelierstipendium ist explizit der Förderung von Frauen, Genderqueers, Inter* und Trans* gewidmet, die bildkünstlerisch arbeiten. Das von einer diversen Jury vergebene Stipendium hat das Ziel, Künstler*innen strukturell zu unterstützen, künstlerische Forschung lokal zu verorten und fortdauernde Gesprächs- und Arbeitsbeziehungen zu schaffen.

Das Atelierstipendium schafft Freiraum für ergebnisoffenes Experimentieren und Forschen, es stellt keine Projektförderung dar. Es beinhaltet die kostenfreie Nutzung des als ‚Satellit’ bezeichneten 15 qm großen Ateliers im District-Gebäude auf der Malzfabrik von 1. Juli 2017 bis 31. Dezember 2017. Darüber hinaus steht das Districtteam den Stipendiat*innen bei der Realisierung ihrer Ideen zur Seite. Leider können wir keine Kosten für Anreise und Unterkunft übernehmen.

Das Atelierstipendium ist Bestandteil unseres Engagements in den Aufbau einer solidarischen künstlerischen Community. Entsprechend bietet das Atelierstipendium durch die transdisziplinären Studiogespräche und die Einbeziehung der Stipendiat*innen in das laufende Programm ein öffentliches Forum für die Reflektion, Weiterentwicklung und Vernetzung der Praxis von Künstler*innen.

Die Bewerbung sollte folgendes enthalten:
• CV (mit vollständigen Kontaktdaten, Angaben zu Ausbildung und Überblick über die bisherige künstlerische Laufbahn)
• Motivationsschreiben und Arbeitsvorhaben (kurze Darstellung der Motivation für das Atelierstipendium sowie der Ideen, an denen während des Aufenthalts gearbeitet werden soll)
• Portfolio (sollte 5 MB nicht überschreiten) und ggf. maximal zwei Video-Links

Open Call – District Studio Grant

Since 2009, District has realized a multifaceted program with the aim of creating an ongoing dialogue between artistic, curatorial, investigative, and educational practices. With a focus on contextualizing artistic practice in urban space, District develops collaborative and research-oriented formats for art in the expanded field. Exploring different kinds of neighborhood and ways of dissolving boundaries, as well as emancipatory moments of amicability, District creates occasions for opening up the present towards diverse perspectives and types of knowledge by means of art. Grounded in feminist, queer and decolonial approaches, District explores the curatorial as a performative as much as analytic practice and probes new kinds of community.

The Studio Grant - awarded for six months -is explicitly developed to support the work of women, gender queer, Inter*, and Trans* artists. Awarded by a diverse jury, the grant aims to structurally support artists, place artistic research in a local context, and to create ongoing discursive and working relationships.

The Studio Grant program creates free space for experiments and research, regardless of their outcome, yet it does not offer project funding. The grant comprises the free use of District’s 15 sqm “satellite” studio on the Malzfabrik area from 1 July 2017 to 31 December 2017. Furthermore the grant artist will be actively supported by the District team in the research for and realization of their ideas. Unfortunately we cannot cover any expenses for travel or accommodation.

The Studio Grant is an important element of District’s long-term engagement in building a solidary artistic community. Therefore, the program offers an open forum for the reflection, advancement, and interconnection of artistic practices through transdisciplinary studio talks and the involvement of the grant artists in the ongoing program.

• Letter of motivation and working proposal (Please submit a letter of motivation stating why you wish to take part in the residency program. Please also introduce what kind of ideas you want to work on for the duration of the studio grant.)
