Das Rumänische Kulturinstitut freut sich am 1 März, um 19:00 Uhr, zur Vernissage der Ausstellung Modern Agora von Andrei Pungovschi, im Rahmen des EMOP Berlin - European Month of Photography einzuladen!
In der Solo-Ausstellung wird eine Reihe von neu produzierten Bildern des Fotojournalisten Andrei Pungovschi gezeigt. Dieses Projekt versucht, unser Verständnis von der heutigen Agora neu zu interpretieren. In der Antike war die Agora der öffentliche Ort, an dem sich Tag für Tag zwei Welten kreuzten: die eine war die Welt der Ideen - die Grundlage der heutigen Demokratie. Die andere war die Welt des Handels und der Kaufleute.
Der Fotograf Andrei Pungovschi reflektiert die Definitionsmacht der Medien über das, was an einem einem bestimmten Ort zu einer bestimmten Zeit geschieht. Er begleitet dabei Proteste in diversen Großstädten. Das Aufeinandertreffen der beiden genannten Welten veranschaulicht er, indem er visuelle Parallelen zwischen dem Protest als aktuellem Ausdruck von Demokratie und den ganz praktischen Aspekten des Alltagslebens zieht.

The Romanian Cultural Institute is pleased to invite you on 1 March, at 7 pm, to the opening of the exhibition Modern Agora by Andrei Pungovschi; a show conceived as part of EMOP Berlin - European Month of Photography!
With this project, the artist seeks to reinterpret the modern-day agora. Back in Antiquity, the agora was the public place where, day by day, two worlds crossed paths. One was the world of ideas, the basis of contemporary democracy. The other was the world of commerce and merchants.
In an attempt to challenge the media’s power of definition of what happens in a particular place at a certain time, photographer Andrei Pungovschi follows various protests across Europe and then draws visual parallels between the protest, as a current expression of democracy, and mundane aspects of everyday life, illustrating thus the encounter of two worlds in the same space.
