19 Uhr: mit Professorin für Medienkunst an der HGB Leipzig, Christin Lahr und den Künstler*innen der Ausstellung "Crimes of Carelessness (the deep and the foamy)" (engl.). VILLA HEIKE | Freienwalder Str. 17 | 13055 Berlin
A key to Berlin is its architecture which is telling us the city`s story: From the remain of the „Old Berlin“ in 16th century to the Friedrichsstadt in 17th and 18th century over to Gendarmenmarkt and Unter den Linden. This place is perfect to explore the 19th century with its classicism imprinted by Schinkel and its Wilhelminian style architecture. Until today this era has an enormous impact on the cityscape.
After monarchy`s falldown and the founding of the Weimarer Republik revolutionary ideas are reflected in art.
Martin-Gropius-Bau
Gropius, Mies, Mendelsohn, Scharoun, Taut and many more render Berlin to a focal point of modern architecture in Germany. Distributed all over the city one is allured to get out of the centre to see Berlin`s suburbs. However, the diversity of the 20s is stopped apruptly by the Third Reich. Their transfixed visions of regnancy still prove the raw claim to power of National Socialism.
The rebuilding after the end of war gives the now seperated city a new look: Stalinallee, Hansaviertel, Alexanderplatz, Kulturforum, IBA mirror the city´s social and political change.
Another break is the fall of the Berlin Wall – the profile of whole areas is modified. Building projects of unexspected dimensions show us the city`s new face at well-known places: Regierungsviertel, Botschaften, Pariser Platz, Potsdamer Platz, Friedrichstraße, Jüdisches Museum. Apart from that, the new Berlin can be seen as adopted living place of many young artists from all over the world. Art, music, film, literature, theatre, dance and the coexistence of various population groups offer an unique mixture of cultural life.
We show our guests a many-sided Berlin. Each tour is prepared individually in accordance with your ideas of time and content. Thereby, we attach importance to organize the tours in a plain and comfortable way. We plan individual trips, prepare guided tours through museums and take a look behind the scenes. Whether by foot, by car or by ship, short breaks for recreation are always scheduled. Tips and a qualitative shopping attendance guarantee a pleasant stay in Berlin before and after the citytours. Furthermore we are pleased to show you good galleries, theatres and restaurants.
Spontaneous bookings for citytours are possible at any time.
