Personalien: Die Architekturbiennale, die nächstes Jahr vom 29. August bis 21. November stattfindet, wird erstmalig von eine Frau geleitet. Die Architektin Kazuyo Sejima (geb.1956 in Ibaraki / Japan) schloss sich 1995 mit Ryue Nishizawa zu dem renommierten Architekturbüro SANAA zusammen. SANAA baute u.a.: das Neue Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst (New York), das Serpentine Pavilion (London), das Christian Dior Building (Tokyo) oder das Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst in Kanazawa.

Kazuyo Sejima sagte über ihre neue Aufgaben: "We are now well into the 21st Century. We can take this opportunity to step back and assess the zeitgeist of now through the process of the Biennale. This can clarify contemporary essentials of architecture and the importance of new relationships as we step into the future. One potent point of departure could be the boundaries and adaptation of space. This might include the removal of boundaries, as well as their clarification. Any part of architecture’s inherent multiplicity of adjacencies can become a topic. It might be argued that contemporary architecture is a rethinking and perhaps softening of those borders."

Als Leitmotiv der Biennale gibt die Architektin Gegensatzpaare wie innen und außen, individuell und öffentlich, Programm und Form, physisch und virtuell, Vergangenheit und Zukunft vor sowie Kunst und Architektur, Natur und Mensch.
