Die *foundationClass weißensee kunsthochschule berlin richtet sich an Geflüchtete, die in ihren Heimatländern entweder ein Kunst- oder Designstudium aufnehmen wollten, schon begonnen hatten oder einen Studienwechsel anstreben. Sie werden dabei unterstützt, eine Bewerbungsmappe für die künstlerische Eignungsprüfung 2021 zu produzieren. Das Programm besteht aus Vorträgen, Workshops und Exkursionen.

Die vielfach ausgezeichnete *foundationClass nimmt von Mai 2020 an neue Studierende auf, die bis Ende Januar 2021 zusammenarbeiten werden. Die Bewerbungsphase hat begonnen und endet am 15. März 2020.

*foundationClass is a program for (becoming) artists and designers

o who have fled/migrated to Germany and/or applied for asylum and are affected by racism
o and who want to start or continue studying art or design in Germany

*foundationClass will support you to prepare a powerful portfolio with which you can apply at art and design schools in 2020. The program will feature lectures, workshops and excursions led mainly by professional artists, designers, scholars and activists who themselves or whose families have migrated to Germany. You will have the possibility to arrive at the school and get to know many other people and experiment with different media. The *foundationClass strives to open up a social space within weißensee academy of art within which knowledge and artistic and design practices are not consumed, but questioned and where new forms of knowledge and practice will be produced collectively.
Together we want to formulate art historie(s), that include the Global South/East, as well as your experiences without using labels such as “refugee” or “migrant”.
Together we want to find answers to the question of how an art school of the future would look like if it genuinely recognised migration as an essential societal factor.
The next *foundationClass Year starts in May 2020 and ends in January 2021 .

The programme views art academies as powerful sites of knowledge production, which, in part unconsciously, (re)produce mechanisms of in- and exclusion by setting white German, heterosexual persons of privileged backgrounds with young and healthy bodies as the norm. The *foundationClass sees itself as a legal tool that aims to prepare the ground for equal access to the institutionalised arts and cultural sectors for people who have fled to Germany. By providing the infrastructure of weißensee academy of art, including facilities, as well as administrative help, the * foundationClass supports the participants to create or reconstruct lost portfolios, documents, and materials in order to be able to formally apply at a German art academy. The * foundationClass wants to create a space within which the resources of all participants are validated and new formats of skill sharing and knowledge transfer can emerge.
